GENESIS X3 proves Smash Ultimate is a truly international battleground

GENESIS X3 has reshaped the competitive landscape, reinforcing Japan’s dominance at the highest level of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. With rankings based on year-long consistency, only six players currently maintain active Top 8 streaks, and most of them represent Japan.

Historically, Leonardo Perez set the benchmark with 32 consecutive Top 8 finishes between 2019 and 2022. Mashita Hayato later came close with 31 straight appearances before his streak ended in 2025. Now, a new wave of Japanese consistency is defining the scene.

Currently, Doramigi leads active streaks with 15 consecutive Top 8 finishes after placing third at GENESIS X3. Close behind is Miya with 13, alongside Hurt, who also holds 13 straight Top 8 results. Acola has restarted momentum with eight in a row.

While GENESIS X3 champion Carlos Perez remains a global threat, alongside Edgar Valdez and Salvatore DeSena, Japan’s depth, character diversity, and international presence continue to set the competitive standard in 2026.
